Interview with a girl who has Down's syndrome
What's your name?
Cindy.
How old are you?
I am 16 years old.
Do you work at all?
Yes, I work part-time at an animal shelter. The animals seem to understand what kids at school don't.
How do you cope with Down syndrome at school?
It's hard sometimes, but my friends support me and I have help at school and a tutor so it's not so bad.
What about at home?
My mum and dad have helped and supported me since I can remember. My younger brother helps me with my french homework while my parents are at work.
Are you in a relationship?
Yes, my boyfriend of 3 years lives next door so he helps me with my science and math projects. He drives to school with me every morning. I asked him why and he said that some people were not nice and that they would sometimes make fun of me in class when I was in special ed, and that no one would try any thing with him there.
Are you bullied normally?
Sometimes, but my friends and boyfriend stick up for me when I can't so it's bearable.
Well I'm glad to hear that, that's all the time we have I'm afraid. Thank you Cindy. It was lovely meeting you.
You too.
